Dear protectors of Taman Desa, I’m sure most of us have noticed that some of the trees at the playground area has recently been chopped down. It’s very upsetting, and we took some time to respond because we had to go through our lawyers on what we can update legally. For now, the hearing for the stay application has been set on the 29th of January, 2026.

In the meantime we urge all residents to not give up hope, the legal battle is still in the early stages, and we can’t let them bulldoze over our rights!

Dear protectors of Taman Desa, I’m sure most of us have noticed that some of the trees at the playground area has recently been chopped down. When we first launched the campaign, we weren’t sure if there was going to be anyone to support us. However ✨ you beautiful people✨ really came through, be it through monetary contribution, spreading the word or even just volunteering your time with us. We were truly blown away by the outpouring support received and saw the effect of a community banding together to protect something important to us. In a short span of 3 months, the community:

📈 Managed to raise RM75,315, in which the excess will be funnelled to Phase 2 for Court of Appeal
🙋🏽‍♀️🙋🏻‍♂️ Attended at least 1 out of 3 of our townhalls
💡 Contributed ideas for the fundraiser
📱 Shared our posts (more than 1000 shares combined!) to raise awareness

In the next two months, we will be working closely with Thomas Philip Advocates and Solicitors on the next steps. During this duration, we have been advised not to divulge details of the legal process. Our volunteers will also be taking a short break until October to rest and recuperate after a gruelling 3 months. However, we will still be contactable via email, Facebook and Instagram.

Think about it, a already mature neighbourhood with buckling infrastructure, traffic jams, double parking, gridlock rush hour traffic within the Taman itself, and we add 2 more condos while taking away 2 public lands at the same time. What is the point of buying into a nice neighbourhood if a few years later, it becomes someone else’s land-grabbing bank? This isn’t a problem restricted within Taman Desa, it concerns all of us, and the vagrant trampling of our voices.

The recent news that a developer in Taman Desa has won their appeal to resume construction of a certain condo has rattled many, but do we do nothing and complain? Make a stand and be heard. Fight back. If you don’t fight for what you believe in, you will always lose.

We had some extra eyes to take another look at the gazetted Kuala Lumpur local plan 2040, and we found a few more red flags 🚩🚩🚩🚩.

Due to our own limited capacity we can only take on the playground and police station lands. The rezoning of lands without public knowledge isn’t happening in Taman Desa alone. This issue plagues KLLP2040 in general, and we are doing what we can to fight this. This document represents a wider issue of our democracy and the rakyat’s voices being stripped, trampled upon and ignored.

What is the gazetted KL Local Plan 2040 and why do we keep talking about it? It’s Kuala Lumpur’s new 15 year development plan that will guide the city’s physical development in the following years. Its goals include ensuring making an Inclusive, fair and liveable city, with green environment and stronger transport networks.

It sounds fantastic on paper, but when studied further, the plan will be taking away many public amenity lands, which include Taman Desa’s playground and police station, just to name a few. It does a whole lot more, and we encourage you to check what impacts it will have in your own areas.

We are holding the authorities and developers accountable by filing a judicial review on the gazetted KL Local Plan 2040, as things were not done with proper consultation and consideration of the welfare of the community.

They’re taking away our 𝐩𝐥𝐚𝐲𝐠𝐫𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐝 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐩𝐨𝐥𝐢𝐜𝐞 𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐞𝐫𝐯𝐞 𝐥𝐚𝐧𝐝𝐬! Overdevelopment in Taman Desa has gone overboard and they are not showing any signs of stopping. Petitions and protests didn’t work, so now let’s do something that works- 𝐰𝐞 𝐭𝐚𝐤𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐭𝐨 𝐜𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐭.

It has worked for Taman Rimba Kiara and Maluri, Cheras. There is hope, but we need to stand together.

Over the years, we watched as developers haphazardly developed parcels of land without any regard for our community.

One by one, these open spaces which were an intergral part of our childhood disappeared into our distant memories.

Which is why this time we are NO longer able sit idly by and watch history repeat itself.

“What are plot ratios and how will it affect me?” 🫠

In our city planning, a plot ratio controls how much total floor space can be built on a piece of land. It’s a formula:

“Plot Ratio = Total Floor Area / Land Area”
Example:
If a plot is 100,000 sq ft:
▪️ Plot Ratio 1.0 = 100,000 sq ft (low-rise)
▪️ Plot Ratio 4.0 = 400,000 sq ft (possible high-rise)

It’s used in zoning laws. The higher the ratio, the denser the development. That means:

In the gazetted Kuala Lumpur 2040 Local Plan, both our Taman Danau Desa Playground AND police station land was changed to residential with a plot ratio of 3.5 (!!!)

So instead of remaining a community park, we can expect two more block of high rise developments with a total of over 500 units. This one simple number has very real effects on our quality of life.
